11th January 2018
Brownbook Lecture Series

Studio CE is a practice that over the last decade has tasked itself with advancing the identity of cities across the Middle East and North Africa. Based in Dubai, Studio CE continues to document how urban areas shape cultures both locally and globally. In this lecture Studio CE co-founders Ahmed and Rashid Bin Shabib will provide a retrospective look at the last decade by shedding light through their practice’s three key disciplines: research, education and urbanism as well as providing prospects of future realities their city and region face.

Ahmed and Rashid Bin Shabib are urbanists and founders of Studio CE, a cultural solutions and advisory practice. Both their interdisciplinary practice and Brownbook magazine investigate over 200 cities in the Middle East & North Africa in order to understand the evolution and tension of Arabia’s native identity, interview people, document architecture, and explore streets and districts. As a result they have been nominated for the Agha Khan awards for architecture in 2010. Both hold degrees from the University of Oxford in Sustainable Urban Development.
