Takako Murakami – Essential Qualities of Japanese Space and Concept of My Chair Design

Takako Murakami, Japanese furniture designer, discusses her chair design in relation to Eastern and Western concepts of space. As well as investigating qualities of light and materials, and the difference between interior and exterior, she also discusses Japanese food, natural hazards such as earthquakes, typhoons, and floods, and the differences between the seasons.

Professor Takako Murakami is based at the new Tottori University of Environmental Studies. Her furniture designs have been widely exhibited internationally.
