David Chipperfield Architects was established in 1984 and has since carried out work in Europe, USA and Japan, establishing a reputation through a series of high-profile commissions, especially interiors and small-scale projects. Since designing the London shop Issey Miyake in 1985 the practice has developed a distinctive voice in British architecture. Chipperfield himself has argued that the central concerns of the architect should be material, volume and light.
NB: Slightly dark picture – particularly at the beginning of the lecture.
