Howland Evans is interested in making buildings that recognise and amplify the qualities of the place in which they are located – architecture that is appropriate to time, place, budget and use. Founded in 2017 by Laura Evans and Joe Howland, the London-based practice works primarily on small-scale projects for clients with limited funds, making a lot with a little. At the House on a Canal, the practice concentrated its attention on reconfiguring the ground floor to radically alter the living situation of a sociable young couple who were expecting their first child. In the new build A Room in a Garden, the approach was to elevate generally available, standardised materials through thoughtful consideration of space, proportion and light, and by detailing which rewards close-looking. https://www.howlandevans.com/
