100 Day Studio: Rev Ayla Lepine and Prof Victoria Young: Church Architecture’s Lessons from Lockdown

Day 82 of the 100 Day Studio: From late March and across the weeks and months that would follow, an intensive debate grew about the place of sacred architecture in worship, the location of worship if it couldn’t be in church, and the meaning of holy ground and rituals for people of faith. In response to the question ‘What is the Church?’ Countless people insisted ‘It’s the people, not the building.’ This talk explores why sacred spaces are needed more than ever, and what we’ve learned about religious architecture’s unique significance while locked out during the lockdown.
