100 Day Studio: The Rural Condition – Niall Maxwell with Andrew Freear, Hana Loftus & Clem Blakemore

Day 88 of the 100 Day Studio: Rural Studio is an off-campus design-build program part of the School of Architecture, Planning and Landscape Architecture of Auburn University. In this special and final part of the Rural Condition series, Niall Maxwell (Rural Office for Architecture) speaks to Andrew Freear, Director of Rural Studio and two alumni from the course, Hana Loftus and Clem Blakemore. They discuss citizen architecture, the ethics & economy of design. The Rural Studio 20k house is a useful model for discussion, an exercise in addressing the needs of a community from within, removing the trailer park model of poverty evident across many rural states and focusing on an economically sustainable model of construction.
