Medine Altiok: Muslim Washing and Prayer House at the Finkenriek Cemetery

The Finkenriek cemetery in Hamburg was expanded to include a Muslim burial ground and a washing and prayer house so that burials can be carried out according to Muslim rites. The Zurich-based architect Medine Altiok describes her design for the building, which was planned in close cooperation with the imams as representatives of local Muslim communities. The film is an episode in a series addressing the recent development of Hamburg which the Architecture Foundation has produced in partnership with Fritz-Schumacher-Gesellschaft e.V. and the City of Hamburg.
