In this video American artist Elliott Hundley demonstrates how construction material washed up on a beach, straight pins, skies of old landscape paintings, wrapping paper, chicken wire and custom jewelry can be combined into a fascinating work of art.
American artist Elliott Hundley (b. 1975) works and lives in LA, California. In this video he presents his work ‘A Cairn of Cynossema’, from 2009. The title refers to Hecuba, queen of Troy who is told to be connected with the promontory Cynossema (Dog’s Monument) on the Hellespont, which is a monument for sailors. ‘A cairn’ refers to a stack of rocks, Hundley says, and explains how he mimics stacking of stones, like a carbol wall in the collage.
Elliott Hundleys works has been described as “condensed ‘dreamscapes’, entwining the personal and symbolic into friable mythologies.”
Elliott Hundley was interviewed by Christian Lund at the Two Days Art festival at the Louisiana Museum of Modern Art in May 2012.
