Jacob Gurevitsch: A Melancholic Universe

Meet Danish musician Jacob Gurevitsch who in his compositions combines the Spanish guitar with a Nordic mood. “It’s not that I’m a sad person, but I really think it is so beautiful when you have music that is a little melancholic. That speaks to my heart.” Read less …

Jacob Gurevitsch is a Copenhagen based artist and musician. Throughout the last ten years, he has developed his own musical signature with the Spanish guitar. His musical universe is characterized by his simple and melancholic melodies. His influences are many and with great diversity – a drop of Argentina, old Italian movies, early morning walks both in Spain and through the landscapes of Scandinavia.

Jacob has a background in playing jazz and soul and was used to a different and more complex musical expression. As the Spanish guitar came into his life he began to explore a new and more melancholic musical universe, with a newfound simplicity in his compositions. To him, the Spanish guitar was love at first sight: “It was primarily the sound – the sound of the guitar. It was just different and that is the thing you cannot explain.”

Jacob Gurevitsch (1972) studied at the Conservatory of Music in Copenhagen and has since toured with many Danish artists and is a member of The Antonelli Orchestra. He has released two albums and one EP in his own name. “Lovers in Paris” 2015, “In Search of Lost Time” 2019 and “Cinemática” 2017.

Jacob Gurevitsch was interviewed by Nora Carbonell in his studio/apartment in November 2020.
