100 Day Studio: Black In Architecture: Reflections on Lived Experiences

Day 89 of the 100 Day Studio: Black In Architecture was founded on 17th June 2020 in the wake of recent events relating to #BlackLivesMatterUK and protests around the world following the killing of George Floyd. The hashtag #BlackInArchitecture was inspired by #BlackInTheIvory on Twitter and aims to share and amplify the voices and experiences of Black/Black British professionals and students in U.K. architecture. As a research project, Black In Architecture commenced on 1st July 2020 with the aim of collecting and using lived experiences alongside existing data and policies to propose a charter, which will cite a set of actions for change. In the first of a two-part series, Shade Abdul, Irvine Toroitich and Zubaydah Jibrilu present a selection of the experiences they have collected over the past few weeks to help direct a discussion on the key issues concerning being black in architecture and how to achieve change.

Current Project Team: Juliet Sakyi-Ansah, Shade Abdul, Irvine Toroitich and Zubaydah Jibrilu. Previous team members: Michael Badu and Wallace Erabu
