100 Day Studio: Ed Gillet, Andrea Cetrulo, Jamal Guthrie, RESOLVE & Bobby Jewell

Day 93 of the 100 Day Studio:

The Current and Future sound of London – Music and Money in the City

London’s music scene is being threatened with closure and a tyranny of blandness. Established clubs are feeling the pressure from draconian policies and preying developers, festivals take up vast areas of public spending in the summer and recently rich techno DJs are attempting to buy out Brixton Market. This informal discussion between Ed Gillet, journalist and producer, Andrea Cetrulo, Associate and Researcher at Teatrum Mundi, Jamal Guthrie, founder of Route and promoter at LNZRT, and Akil Scafe-Smith of RESOLVE collective is chaired by Bobby Jewell. It considers the pressures currently facing the city’s music industry and what that means for the future. How do independent music venues survive amongst an ever monopolising market? How do big companies whitewash and benefit from the cultural capital of dance music? And what can be done to better preserve and foster independent music in London?
