100 Day Studio: Gerry O’Brien – ‘Role of Offsite in Delivering Modern Learning Environments’

Day 30 of the 100 Day Studio: The Farmer Report in 2016 told us that our industry must ‘modernise or die’: a call to arms to reform our archaic building practices, for accelerating offsite manufacture and exploiting its many potential benefits. Yet this approach still struggles to gain traction, in part due to its reputation for being limited to uninspiring, repetitive elements and producing banal architecture. Gerry O’Brien, Design Director of AKTii reviews some recent education sector projects that have exploited offsite construction, designed with architects Grafton, All Design, RSHP and CRAB.
