100 Day Studio: Matthew Butcher – Towards an Architecture of the Performative and Poetic

Day 90 of the 100 Day Studio: Matthew Butcher presents some of his recent design projects that investigate how architecture can operate perfomatively and poetically in order to question increasing conditions of disembodiment and disenchantment from our experience and understanding of the material and physical world. Butcher discusses how the projects also offer a recourse to certain practical and philosophical legacies of modernity that are still prevalent in the discipline today, for example a desire for dominance over nature, a celebration of technological progress, and a desire to deny historical and environmental contexts; attitudes that are all exacerbating the ongoing damage to our environment.
