100 Day Studio: Shahed Saleem – ‘The Mosque and the Nation’

Day 57 of the 100 Day Studio: The history of the British mosque charts a course through the 20th century and the making of modern Britain, from colonial to postcolonial, to multicultural. Shahed Saleem of Makespace narrates the story of the mosque as one of community endeavour and resilience against the nation’s regimes of systematic exclusion. He describes how its architecture is inherently political as well as being an ongoing exploration of new migrant identities.
