AA XX 100: ‘A Collection of Scimitar Minds’
Bedford Square Festival
Friday 30 June 2017
This talk introduces the AA XX 100 project, which celebrates and commemorates the centenary of women’s admission to the Architectural Association School of Architecture. Through a series of case studies, it goes on to show how the AA, Bedford Square and the area around it, provided a vibrant context from which generations of women went on to design the world.
Dr. Elizabeth Darling and Dr. Lynne Walker are members of the project team for AA XX 100. Both have researched and published extensively on the history of women and architecture in the UK and will co-edit the project book AA XX 100: AA Women in Architecture 1917-2017 (AA Publications) and co-curate the exhibition of the same name. They are also co-conveners of the international conference AA XX 100: AA Women and Architecture in Context 1917-2017 to be held at the AA and the Paul Mellon Centre from 2-4 November 2017.
