*and what happens when you underestimate them
EmTech Masterclass
6 December 2017

Suryansh’s talk is about how research exists in the context of an architectural practice in comparison to academia, its constraints as well as its discoveries. It will journey through his time at ZHA Research Group and into the founding of Automata, the robotics company he co-founded with Mostafa ElSayed.

Suryansh Chandra is Co-Founder of Automata, a 2.5-year old robotics company based in London, working to democratise robotic automation through beautiful, affordable hardware and elegantly simple software. Suryansh started Automata with Mostafa Elsayed out of a personal frustration with using robots for Architectural Research, and Automata is now a 12 person company working on bringing their first product to market.

Previously, Suryansh worked in the research group at Zaha Hadid Architects (ZHA), working on conception, creation and use of advanced technologies in design methods and construction processes. He co-authored numerous research papers and has given talks at various institutions across the world. Zaha Hadid Architects is world renowned for its unique formal language and prowess in building such forms as the Aquatic Centre for London Olympics and the Serpentine Sackler Gallery in London.
