Jesse Reiser is a partner with Nanako Umemoto in the New York -based architectural practice Reiser + Umemoto which has attracted considerable international praise. Current views of information technology and virtual space have often rendered the design of buildings as a dead husk, says Reiser. His conception of a solid state architecture addresses the separation that has developed between the virtual and the material in conventional architectural practice. He suggests that this separation overlooks a fundamental condition of material reality – that of the deeply informative interpretation of the virtual within the material.
