Josep Lluis Mateo – Identity and Modernity

Lecture date: 2013-11-29

In our globalised practice, we operate towards specificity, towards providing a precise response to a place, a culture and a situation. But we are also interested in establishing a relationship with a more general abstract, scientific, common kind of thinking; in constructing a globally comprehensible language.

In this sense, both as a strategy of rootedness and as an expression of primitive, common logics, we are interested in using craftsmanship as an instrument for the materialisation of the project.

Josep Lluis Mateo is an award-winning architect and educator responsible for numerous built works, including the Film Theatre of Catalonia in Barcelona. His work has been extensively published and exhibited, and he is currently Professor of Architecture and Design at ETH Zurich.
