Evening Lecture
With recent works ranging from filling gallery space with mattresses or used refrigerators to live theatrical performances, Tobias Spichtig is frequently inspired by the mundane, the mystical, and the architectural. By absorbing the conditions of viewing into the very texture of the work, Spichtig continually reframes the reciprocity of individual and collective modes of reception. Daniel Sherer, who is known for his consequential writings and ability to bridge artistic and architectural discourse, will expand from Spichtig’s work to open up the discussion to a range of topics.
Dr. Daniel Sherer has taught at the Yale School of Architecture (2008 to the present) and Columbia GSAPP (1998-2017). This Spring he is Visiting Faculty at the Princeton School of Architecture, where he is teaching a seminar on exchanges, receptions, and continuities between Italian and American modern architecture from 1920 to 2018. Most recently he has curated the exhibition “Aldo Rossi: The Architecture and Art of the Analogous City,” at Princeton SOA on view from 5 February to 30 March 2018.
Tobias Spichtig is an artist who currently lives and works in Berlin and Zürich. His performances, paintings and sculptures deal with the mythological aspects of the everyday, and fictional narratives of the present. His work has recently been shown and performed at the Swiss Institute in New York, the Kölnischer Kunstverein, Cologne; Kunsthalle Zürich, Zürich; and the Hammer Museum, Los Angeles among others.
