“If I could place my paintings somewhere between Oasis and Bach I will be a happy person”
In this short video, German painter, Friedrich Kunath, explains his long-standing obsession with the British rock band, Oasis, and the German composer, Johann Sebastian Bach.
For Friedrich Kunath, the music of Oasis stands as the soundtrack to his youth and the last analog century – “the last century of freedom” as he explains. Bach, on the other hand, was order and mathematical romanticism, which Kunath is forever drawn.
“If Oasis is the roots, then Bach formulates the divinity and the spiritualness to it all”.
Friedrich Kunath (b.1974) is a German artist who lives and works in Los Angeles. He studied at the Braunschweig University of Arts. Kunath’s own personal journey from Germany to Los Angeles is at the core of his works – incorporating German Romanticism and western popular culture with lyrical references, cartoon imagery, as well as still life, nature photography, and commercial illustrations.
Friedrich Kunath was interviewed by Kasper Bech Dyg at the Avlskarl Gallery in Copenhagen, Denmark, in September 2021.
