Archio was founded in 2011 by Kyle Buchanan and Mellis Haward, who studied together at the University of Cambridge and previously worked at Moxon Architects and Gort Scott respectively. The Bethnal Green-based practice has established a reputation for engaging local people in the design and planning processes – a tradition that started when Archio won a public vote for the commission to design Lewisham’s Brasted Close Community Land Trust development. The 100 per cent affordable scheme was developed through a series of community workshops which unearthed the ideal tools and formats for responding to the needs of particular stakeholder groups. Key recent commissions include two urban villas for Barking and Dagenham Council’s Be First development company, which will be constructed within the huge, inter-war Becontree Estate. https://www.archio.co.uk/
