Matter Architecture was set up in 2016 by Roland Karthaus and Jonathan McDowell, formerly of Karthaus Design and McDowell+Benedetti respectively. It describes its approach as working openly and collaboratively with clients and design teams to turn constraints into opportunities by persistently challenging presumption. In Hull, the practice has designed Princes Quay Bridge, a new route for pedestrians and cyclists over a busy city centre road. In London, Matter has worked on a number of projects to expand Clapham Manor Children’s Centre including The Spinney, a family centre with an emphasis on Special Educational Needs. https://www.matterarchitecture.uk/
