Argentine artist Ad Minoliti is a painter who combines a pictorial language of geometric abstraction with the perspective of queer theory. They use this combination as a starting point for different installations that encompass art history, architecture, feminism, interior design, animalism and the internet. The use of graphic forms, colour, frames and contrasting aesthetics challenges normative social hierarchies in art and politics, re-interpreting visual identities and post-humanist landscapes. In this studio visit, they will discuss their artistic practice that incorporates photoshop collages, prints on canvas and more traditional painting.
The “Virtual Artist Studio Visits” series explores the practice of four contemporary artists, using the studio visit as a starting point, and is loosely based around the concept of performing identity: how we frame and are framed by our identity. The series is organised in collaboration with StudioVisit.
Ad Minoliti Minoliti (b. 1980, Argentina) lives and works in Buenos Aires. They have exhibited internationally including the 58th International Art Exhibition of La Biennale di Venezia Venice, Italy; Southbank Centre, London; Aichi Triennale, Japan; Gwangju Biennial; Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Art, North Adams, USA; Museum of Modern Art Buenos Aires MAMBA, Buenos Aires. Upcoming solo exhibitions include Kunsthalle Lissabon, Lisbon; BALTIC Centre for Contemporary Art, Gateshead, UK and CCCOD Tours, France. They studied at the Artistic Research Center of Buenos Aires (Centro de Investigaciones Artísticas), Buenos Aires, Argentina. They are the cofounder of the feminist art collective PintorAs.
