Tom Cordell’s celebration of London’s post-war social housing, ‘Utopia London’, has played an important role in the recent upsurge in interest in Brutalist architecture, introducing a new audience to some of the iconic work of AA graduates such as Oliver Cox, George Finch and Neave Brown. Tom will be in conversation with Joseph Watson, London Creative Director of the National Trust, responsible for the popular ‘Brutal Utopias’ series of tours which signalled a new direction in the Trust’s involvement with the UK’s Brutalist heritage.
Tom Cordell began his film career as a teenager documenting London’s Drum n’Bass and Garage scenes. Following a stint with the BBC and the music video industry, he worked in TV crime and science documentaries. More recently he has concentrated on projects based on social and political issues, working for various UN agencies and campaigning groups.
Joseph Watson is London Creative Director of the National Trust and author of the short guide that accompanied ‘Brutal Utopias’.
