Meet the acclaimed Danish jazz guitarist Jakob Bro as he talks about the great influence of playing with jazz legends such as Paul Motian, Lee Konitz and Bill Frisell.
Jakob Bro’s compositions have a freedom in them to move intuitively like a scarf floating in the air. The music has a sense of magical lightness, which has become one of his trademarks.
“My compositions is about catching a glimpse of a feeling, sketching it down and then unfolding it as we record”, he says. The “sketch” approach leaving room for improvisations later on in the process is the core of Jakob Bro’s music. This has led to his highly acclaimed trilogy, “Balladering”, “Time” and December Song” which he, among others, recorded with Paul Motian, Lee Konitz and Bill Frisell.
“It’s all about unfolding these sketches and letting them take you places you haven’t been before”, Bro explains.
The trilogy has been called one of the key works of the Danish jazz scene in the last decade, earning great international acknowledgement. Besides being a former member of Paul Motian & The Electric Bebop Band. Jakob Bro (b.1978) is also a current member of Tomasz Stanko’s Dark Eyes Quintet.
