Material Joints (+ why they matter)


For a young architect, the realization that lines on paper represent actual physical materials is transformational. An architect’s work is to infuse these seemingly simple intersections between materials with meaning and beauty.

To illustrate how architects artfully compose joints (and the different types) I dissect two projects, which differ in their execution but support the same thesis: that even the tiniest of joints matter to architecture.
